Athlete Microbiome · Standalone assessment
Your performance starts within.
A complementary athlete assessment of the gut microbiome, presented through performance-oriented categories: training, recovery, energy metabolism and gut-related athlete insights.
Who it is for
- Athletes who want a view of a biological system beyond their genetics
- Athletes reviewing nutrition and recovery routines with a coach or practitioner
- Athletes who already have a Sports DNA profile and want a complementary layer
- Performance staff building a broader athlete picture over time
What the assessment evaluates
What the Athlete Microbiome assessment evaluates
Training
Gut-related factors that athletes commonly consider alongside training load and consistency.
Recovery
Microbiome composition in the context of recovery routines between sessions and competition.
Energy metabolism
Microbial functions associated with how dietary energy is processed.
Gut-related athlete insights
Diversity and composition measures presented in a performance-oriented context.
Sample collection
A separate collection workflow
Athlete Microbiome does not use the Sports DNA kit. It uses a ZYMO gut collection kit with its own instructions.
-
01
Receive your kit
Your Athlete Microbiome assessment ships with a ZYMO gut collection kit.
-
02
Collect
Collect your sample at home following the instructions supplied with the ZYMO kit.
-
03
Seal & return
Seal the collection device as instructed and return it in the supplied packaging.
-
04

Access your microbiome dashboard digitally once analysis is complete.
Example results
A performance-oriented dashboard
Results are presented digitally and organised around the categories athletes actually work with.

- Recovery
- Energy metabolism
- Gut-related athlete insights

Genetics + Microbiome
Two different views
Used together, they describe different things about the same athlete.
Sports DNA
Genetics can provide information about inherited predispositions — tendencies you carry with you that do not change over time.
Athlete Microbiome
Microbiome analysis provides a view of a biological system that can vary over time — a snapshot rather than a fixed characteristic.
Microbiome results are not medical or diagnostic. They describe the composition of a biological system at the time of sampling.
Frequently asked
Is Athlete Microbiome part of MOVE, TRAIN, PERFORM or PEAK?
No. Athlete Microbiome is a separate, standalone assessment. It is not a level within the Sports DNA progression.
Does it use the Sports DNA sample kit?
No. Athlete Microbiome uses a ZYMO gut collection kit, with its own collection workflow that is entirely separate from the Sports DNA sample process.
Can I take it alongside a Sports DNA package?
Yes. Many athletes combine the two: genetics describes inherited predispositions, while the microbiome reflects a biological system that can change over time.
Genetic and microbiome insights describe tendencies and predispositions. They are not diagnostic and do not determine athletic outcomes. Training, nutrition, environment, coaching and lifestyle remain decisive factors in performance and development.
